Payments company Mastercard has applied for registration of 15 trademarks related to crypto and the metaverse.

According to the filings, we are talking about “a media-enabled NFT, digital goods marketplace, and payment transaction processing and e-commerce software in the metaverse.”

The applications have been submitted in accordance with Section 1(b), which assumes the intention to use trademarks in the future without specifying specific scenarios and deadlines.

The applications refer to the metaverses in the context of “sponsoring cultural and sporting events, charity events, concerts, travel, buffets, festivals and awards.”

In the last 12 months to February, the number of metaverse-related trademarks filed increased from 13 to 257.
