US Presidential Candidates Start Accepting Donations in Bitcoin

At the Bitcoin 2023 conference, Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., the nephew of the 35th President of the United States, started to accept cryptocurrency as a form of campaign donations via the Lightning Network micropayment network.

Announcing this initiative, Kennedy called digital assets a “symbol of democracy and freedom.”

Following suit, Vivek Ramaswamy, another participant in the election race, displayed a QR code that redirected to a payment site, offering different options, including Bitcoin and Satoshi, through which donors can contribute up to $6,600 in crypto donations.

Both Ramaswamy and Kennedy have frequently voiced their support for cryptocurrencies, with Kennedy claiming in April that they are an alternative to the traditional financial system.
