38-year-old California resident Kristy Lynn Felkins has been sentenced to five years in prison for attempting to hire a contract killer to murder her ex-husband.

This information was reported by the US Department of Justice on its website. According to the investigation, between February and May of 2016, Felkins contacted an administrator of an allegedly darkweb site offering the services of assassins and provided details about her ex-husband’s address, car, and daily schedule.

She requested that his death look “like an accident” but did not accept a $4,000 surcharge. Upon sending 12 BTC ($5,000 at the time), she was informed that a “hit man” was assigned and her husband would disappear within a week.

However, the murder never took place, as the site was found to be fraudulent. Despite her ex-husband’s description of the divorce as peaceful and Felkins as a good mother, he requested a “substantial sentence” for her.

This case comes as a reminder of another attempted contract killing in 2021, when US authorities arrested a 37-year-old Wisconsin resident on charges of attempting to organize a commission of murder.
