Coinbase has officially been registered with the central bank of Spain to offer exchange and custody services in the country.

According to the announcement made on Monday, in order to provide crypto-related services, registration with the Bank of Spain is a mandatory requirement, and registered firms are subject to adherence to the country’s anti-money laundering standards.

While Spain currently does not have a licensing system for cryptocurrency companies, it will be required to implement one under the recently finalized MiCA regulation from the European Union.

This regulation, which will be effective in 2024, pertains to crypto issuers and service providers.
