Binance.US Appoints a New Chief Compliance Officer

The US division of Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has announced the appointment of a new chief compliance officer.

Lesley O’Neill, formerly the chief compliance officer at Prove Identity, will be responsible for overseeing the compliance efforts of Binance.US, including anti-money laundering and know your customer programs.

O’Neill takes over for Tammy Weinrib, who left the company in November. Binance and its founder, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, recently pleaded guilty to violations related to anti-money laundering and sanctions, resulting in significant fines.

Binance.US, although not part of the settlement, is facing an investigation by the SEC for allegedly offering unregistered securities to American investors, and the commission is also reportedly looking into possible control of Binance.US assets by Binance and Zhao.
