Attorneys representing Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried have submitted legal documents to challenge and overturn the conviction and sentencing of the former FTX CEO.

According to the notice filed on April 11 in the Southern District of New York, attorney Alexandra Shapiro announced that Bankman-Fried will appeal the verdict of a jury which found him guilty of seven felony charges and the sentence of 25 years in federal prison imposed by Judge Lewis Kaplan.

The appeal was planned at the sentencing hearing on March 28, so the filing was expected. The appeal was filed two weeks after Bankman-Fried’s sentencing hearing, during which Judge Kaplan also ordered the forfeiture of $11 billion.

On April 8, the former FTX CEO’s legal team requested an order that would allow him to remain at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn for the duration of the appeal instead of being transferred to a federal prison in the San Francisco Bay Area.
