Australia’s crypto industry has reacted positively to the reelection of the government, with pro-crypto politician Andrew Charlton appointed as assistant minister for the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.

At a May 12 press conference in Canberra, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced Charlton’s role as assistant minister for science, technology, and the digital economy, alongside Tim Ayres, the minister for industry and innovation.

According to Albanese, Ayres and Charlton will oversee policies and initiatives that support advancements in emerging technologies, science, and the digital economy.

Charlton has previously demonstrated strong support for the industry. In a speech to parliament last November, he advocated for a balanced regulatory framework to foster industry growth.
