Block, Inc. has announced plans to implement Bitcoin payment capabilities across its Square merchant platform, leveraging the Lightning Network for efficient transactions.
The phased rollout will commence in late 2025, with full deployment anticipated by 2026 pending regulatory clearance.
During the Bitcoin 2025 conference demonstration, Block showcased how existing Square hardware will support BTC transactions without requiring additional equipment.
Merchants gain flexibility to either retain Bitcoin holdings or enable automatic real-time conversion to fiat currency.
This development expands upon Square’s current cryptocurrency infrastructure, offering consumers seamless QR code-based payments with Lightning Network’s rapid settlement.
