SEC Considers Regulatory Relief to Boost Crypto Sector Growth

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The SEC is developing a framework to provide conditional exemptions for blockchain businesses, Chair Paul Atkins disclosed at a Monday event.

The proposed “innovation exemption” would temporarily lift certain regulatory burdens while the commission evaluates permanent updates to securities rules.

Atkins, drawing on his background as a crypto advocate, noted the mismatch between current regulations – designed for conventional financial intermediaries – and decentralized finance models.

The initiative aims to accelerate market entry for compliant onchain products while maintaining investor protections through tailored requirements.
