With US equities and gold losing appeal, crypto funds attracted $7.05 billion in May, lifting total assets to an unprecedented $167 billion.

Bitcoin’s 15% surge—outperforming global stocks and gold—reflects its growing use as a hedge amid dollar weakness and bond yield volatility.

“Bitcoin is reclaiming its role as a diversification tool,” said Aether Holdings’ Nicolas Lin. Analysts point to spot Bitcoin ETF approvals as a catalyst for institutional inflows, contrasting sharply with $5.9 billion fleeing global equity funds.

Gold, long a safe haven, also saw outflows, signaling a broader reassessment of risk assets.
