El Salvador’s National Bitcoin Strategy Continues with $2.3M Anniversary Purchase

Defying its earlier commitments to the International Monetary Fund, El Salvador has added to its national bitcoin treasury.
President Nayib Bukele confirmed the purchase of 21 BTC ($2.3 million) to commemorate the fourth year of Bitcoin’s status as legal tender.
According to the National Bitcoin Office, the state’s holdings now stand at 6,313 BTC ($701.8 million).
The purchase highlights a contradiction in the nation’s fiscal policy; while the central bank told the IMF it halted public BTC acquisitions in February per a loan agreement, the government’s Bitcoin Office has continued its program of buying one BTC per day.
