Crypto.com User Data Leaked in Breach by Teen Hacker, Report Says
The personal information of Crypto.com users was compromised in a security breach carried out by a teenage hacker, as reported by Bloomberg Businessweek.
The attack, which had not been previously disclosed, saw hackers gain access to an employee’s account, a common vector for data theft.
A Crypto.com spokesperson assured that the incident impacted a “very small number of individuals” and that customer funds remained secure. However, the breach underscores the persistent risk to personal data held on cryptocurrency exchanges.
The perpetrator, Noah Urban, was a member of the Scattered Spider gang and was later arrested by the FBI. He has since been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in hacking 13 different companies.
