EU Regulators Grant First Wave of Licenses to Major Crypto Firms

The EU’s landmark MiCA framework has moved from theory to practice, with regulators in Cyprus, Malta, and France granting the first major wave of licenses to crypto service providers.

Fintech giant Revolut, exchange Blockchain.com, and Bitcoin-only app Relai announced the approvals on Thursday, marking a pivotal moment for the industry. These designations as official Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs) replace the previous system of national VASP registrations, creating a single rulebook for the bloc.

The licenses grant these firms an operational passport across the entire European Economic Area, setting a new benchmark for compliance and consumer protection.
