A New Digital Blueprint: Franklin Templeton Debuts Hong Kong’s First Tokenized Fund

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Franklin Templeton has launched a landmark tokenized money-market fund in Hong Kong, creating a digital blueprint for future investment products under the city’s new regulatory framework.

The Franklin OnChain U.S Government Money Fund issues blockchain-based tokens that digitally represent shares in a portfolio backed by short-term US Treasuries.

This product is the first to emerge following the unveiling of the HKMA’s Fintech 2030 plan, a comprehensive strategy to drive the adoption of AI and blockchain in finance.

The fund’s operation within the Project Ensemble sandbox, alongside partners like HSBC, demonstrates a practical application of tokenization, moving from concept to a live, regulated financial product that could reshape how assets are held and traded.
