Binance has named co-founder Yi He as co-CEO, formally sharing the top executive responsibility with current chief executive Richard Teng.

CEO Richard Teng revealed the appointment during a keynote at Binance Blockchain Week. He framed the move as a logical step, given He’s integral role on the executive team from the company’s very launch.

Teng emphasized that He, who served as chief marketing officer before this appointment, is key to driving community expansion and product development. Yi He added that the co-CEO structure would merge two distinct viewpoints, benefiting from Teng’s expertise in navigating traditional, regulated markets.

A foundational figure, Yi He co-created Binance alongside Changpeng “CZ” Zhao in 2017. Richard Teng was elevated to the CEO post in late November 2023 after CZ stepped down and pleaded guilty to allegations from the US Department of Justice, prior to which he managed all non-US regional markets.
