Argentina Considers Opening Banking Sector to Crypto Services

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a significant policy review, Argentine authorities are weighing a proposal to allow licensed banks to engage in cryptocurrency transactions and client services. This move could bridge the gap between traditional finance and the growing digital asset ecosystem in the country.

The initiative is being developed by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA), as reported by La Nacion citing individuals with knowledge of the process. The BCRA’s existing mandate currently blocks banks from offering any services involving digital assets.

Although details on the regulatory scope remain confidential, industry insiders indicate the changes are in progress. A representative from a leading crypto exchange operating locally projected that the revised rules might be finalized and enacted by April 2026.
