Google Play restricted access to 17 unregistered foreign crypto exchanges serving South Korean users at the request of local regulators.

On March 21, the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of South Korea’s Financial Services Commission (FSC) announced potential sanctions against operators who failed to report to the authorities.

Under the country’s Specified Financial Information Act, virtual asset service providers (VASPs) must register with regulators.

At that time, the FIU collaborated with the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC), the internet regulatory body, to block access to these exchanges.

By March 26, the FSC released a list of 22 unregistered platforms, noting that 17 had been blocked from the Google Play store.
