SEC Greenlights Options Trading on Spot Ether ETFs

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has approved options trading for several spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs), enabling institutional investors to adopt more sophisticated strategies in Ether markets.

This decision allows exchanges like Nasdaq to list options on funds such as BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA), Bitwise’s Ethereum ETF (ETHW), Fidelity’s Ethereum Fund (FETH), and Grayscale’s Ethereum Trusts (ETHE and ETH Mini).

The approval follows a regulatory review that began with BlackRock’s request in July 2024.

The SEC described these new products as cost-effective tools for investors to gain Ether exposure and hedge existing positions, potentially stabilizing interest in the asset.
