Four in Ten US Merchants Now Embrace Crypto at Checkout, PayPal Reports
Driven by consumer interest, close to 40% of US merchants currently allow cryptocurrency payments at checkout. PayPal shared these insights from a new survey examining payment trends.
Nearly nine out of ten US merchants report that customers have asked about using crypto for purchases. PayPal released these findings on Tuesday, drawing from an October survey by the National Cryptocurrency Association.
The study engaged 619 industry professionals in payment-strategy roles.
“The data and our customer conversations show crypto payments are entering the realm of everyday commerce,” said May Zabaneh, Vice President and General Manager at PayPal. “Adoption stems from demand for faster, more flexible payment options, and businesses see clear value after implementation.”
Eighty-four percent of respondents also expect crypto payments to become standard practice in five years. While supporters highlight potential for faster settlements and reduced cross-border costs with digital assets, widespread use is still hindered by uneven adoption and complex infrastructure.
