Hackers Steal $29M in Crypto from CoinEX

Cybercriminals managed to successfully infiltrate CoinEX, resulting in the withdrawal of digital currencies totalling $29 million.

PeckShield analysts revealed that Ether, Polygon and Tron were among the stolen funds.

Consequently, Cyvers cybersecurity experts urged theCoinEX administration to prevent further withdrawals and deposits.

Stats showed that money lost consisted of $18.2 million worth of ETH, $8.5 million of TRX and $291,000 in MATIC tokens.

Confirming the incident, the exchange stated that the hackers had taken advantage of a security flaw.

Investigations into the damage were launched in order to assess the overall amount of the losses, and that the victims of the attack would be reimbursed.

It was found that over a period of one hour, 5,000 ETH had been withdrawn from CoinEX, with a sum of about 40,000 ETH taken since May. Thus, the cryptocurrency platform has been left with a zero Ether balance.
