Hackers Steam More Than $77M From Crypto Exchange AscendEX

Singapore-based cryptocurrency exchange AscendEX has fallen victim to a hack of its Ethereum, Polygon and Binance Smart Chain (BSC) hot wallets. The platform has said:

“We have detected a number of ERC-20, BSC, and Polygon tokens transferred from our hot wallet. Cold Wallet is NOT affected. Investigation underway. If any user’s funds are affected by the incident, they will be covered completely by AscendEX.”

AscendEX also promised to compensate for any funds lost by users, but at the moment has not specified the amount of damage.

PeckShield has noted some hackers have withdrawn $77.7 million from the platform. According to analysts, the attackers have stolen $8.5 million in Polygon network tokens, $9.2 million i. BSC and $60 million in Ethereum.

Huobi has promised support to colleagues in eliminating the consequences of the attack:

“Huobi will do our best to assist #AscendEX in handling this issue. As part of our security protocol, we have blacklisted these related assets and will report on any inflows of such assets in a timely manner.“
