The Ethereum Foundation team has announced that the Ropsten testnet will be closed as deprecated in the coming weeks.
According to the blog post:
“The vast majority of the remaining validator nodes will go down between December 15 and 31, 2022. After that, Ropsten will no longer be supported by client, testing or infrastructure teams.”
They have also said that they plan to shut down another testnet, Rinkeby, by mid-2023. The Ethereum Foundation has recommended that developers and users switch to Goerli or Sepolia.
They have recalled that Rinkeby was not planned to implement The Merge update, so it cannot act as the equivalent of the main network.
