Slovenia Proposes 25% Tax on Crypto Transactions
Slovenia’s Finance Ministry is considering a 25% tax on cryptocurrency trading profits for residents, as outlined in a new draft law open for public consultation.
The proposal suggests taxing traders when they convert cryptocurrency to fiat or pay for goods and services, while exempting crypto-to-crypto trades and transfers between a user’s own wallets, according to an April 17 statement.
The planned law aims to align crypto taxes with existing tax regulations. Slovenian taxpayers would need to keep transaction records for annual tax returns, with the tax base calculated by subtracting the purchase price from the sale price.
Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič told the Slovenia Times that it’s unreasonable for individual crypto trading to remain untaxed.
