El Salvador Keeps Buying BTC
El Salvador has added 7 Bitcoin (worth approximately $650,000) to its national treasury in the week ending April 27, according to official blockchain data from the country’s Bitcoin Office.
This acquisition comes despite recent comments from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) suggesting the Central American nation had halted its cryptocurrency purchases.
The apparent discrepancy emerged during an April 26 IMF press briefing when Rodrigo Valdés, Director of the Western Hemisphere Department, stated that El Salvador remains in compliance with its agreement to stop government Bitcoin accumulation.
“I can confirm they continue to comply with their commitment of non-accumulation of Bitcoin by the overall fiscal sector,” Valdés said, while emphasizing that the IMF’s program with El Salvador focuses on broader structural reforms rather than cryptocurrency policy.
