CFTC to Drop Appeal in Kalshi’s Case

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Monday moved to withdraw its appeal of a court decision permitting New York derivatives platform KalshiEX LLC to list contracts for betting on election outcomes.

The CFTC requested permission for voluntary dismissal, with both parties agreeing to cover their own costs and fees, as stated in a filing with the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

A CFTC representative noted that the agency filed for dismissal following a unanimous vote by the Commission, with a 3-0 decision and one commissioner abstaining.

This decision comes amid evolving regulations for prediction markets, which critics argue introduce risks into financial markets.
