B.C. Pulls the Plug: Province Unveils Sweeping Power Restrictions for Crypto, AI Data Centers

Reading Time: < 1 minute

British Columbia is taking decisive action to control its energy future by permanently banning new cryptocurrency mining connections and limiting power for data centers and AI.

The new allocation framework, set to be fully implemented by fall 2025, ensures the province’s clean electricity is directed toward high-value economic projects.

“We are ensuring that our clean energy is directed to projects that deliver the greatest benefit to British Columbians,” said Energy Minister Adrian Dix. The immediate legislation blocks new crypto miners, while future policies will cap the power available to other large, emerging electricity consumers.
