Ripple Finalizes European Electronic Money License in Luxembourg
Ripple has been granted a full Electronic Money Institution license by Luxembourg’s financial regulator, finalizing a preliminary approval from earlier in January. The authorization was confirmed on Monday.
This license allows Ripple to expand its suite of payments and digital asset services across all European Union member states, the company announced in a statement.
Issued by Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), the EMI license provides Ripple with a formal, regulated foundation to deploy its blockchain-based payment infrastructure for European business clients.
“Europe has always been a strategic priority for us, and this authorization allows us to scale our mission of providing robust, compliant blockchain infrastructure to clients across the EU,” said Cassie Craddock, Managing Director, UK & Europe at Ripple. “We are now better positioned than ever to help European businesses transition into a more efficient, digital-first financial era.”
The milestone in Luxembourg builds upon Ripple’s recent progress in the United Kingdom. Last month, the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority granted the firm both an EMI license and a crypto asset registration, paving the way for its UK expansion alongside the government’s plan for a comprehensive crypto regulatory framework by 2027.
