Bitcoin Runes Amass 2,500 Bitcoin in Transaction Fees

In under two months, Bitcoin Runes has collected over 2,500 BTC in transaction fees, a strong indication of the growing popularity of Bitcoin-based decentralized finance (DeFi).

Launched during the 2020 Bitcoin halving in April, the Runes protocol, which enables the creation of fungible tokens on the Bitcoin network, has generated a total of $163 million in fees, as shown by Dune data.

This achievement highlights the ongoing interest in BTCFi, or Bitcoin-native DeFi, and the potential it holds for the Bitcoin network.

The additional income from protocols like Runes could also serve as a much-needed source of revenue for Bitcoin miners post-halving, following the reduction of BTC block rewards from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC.
