Metaplanet Overtakes El Salvador’s Bitcoin Holdings

Japan-based investment firm Metaplanet has purchased 1,241 Bitcoin (BTC) for around $126.7 million. This acquisition positions Metaplanet ahead of El Salvador in total Bitcoin holdings, making it one of the largest institutional holders globally.

The firm disclosed today that it acquired Bitcoin at an average price of approximately $102,119 (14,848,061 yen) per coin, increasing its total holdings to 6,796 BTC, up from 5,555 BTC last week.

Since it began acquiring Bitcoin in April 2024, Metaplanet’s reserves have surpassed El Salvador’s, which holds 6,174 BTC.

This places Metaplanet ahead by 622 BTC according to El Salvador’s Bitcoin Office data.
