Cboe Brings Offshore Crypto Innovation Onshore with New Perpetual Futures
Cboe Global Markets will list continuous futures for Bitcoin and Ether starting November 10.
These products, known as perpetual futures, are hugely popular on unregulated overseas platforms. Cboe’s version will be cash-settled and employ a “transparent and replicable funding rate methodology” to maintain alignment with spot prices, but within a federally regulated environment.
Cboe’s Global Head of Derivatives, Catherine Clay, said this provides US traders “confidence in a trusted, transparent and intermediated environment.” The launch signifies Cboe’s renewed conviction in the crypto asset class after halting its initial futures program during a bear market. The exchange has recently focused on launching crypto-based ETFs.
