Scandal Erupts Over Lawmaker’s Crypto Exchange Ties
A prominent South Korean politician faces allegations of misconduct linked to the cryptocurrency sector. Kim Byung-kee, a floor leader, is accused of pressuring one exchange after his son found work at a competitor.
According to the report, Kim allegedly tried to help his son get a job at Bithumb while using his committee position to target its rival, Dunamu’s Upbit. The actions reportedly occurred around the time of a major corporate acquisition.
The lawmaker is said to have instructed aides to focus on Dunamu after Naver moved to acquire it. The deal’s value was reported at $10 billion and remains subject to regulatory review.
Kim’s position on a key financial committee makes these allegations particularly sensitive. He has publicly denied any connection between his son’s recruitment and his official duties.
