NFT Royalty Payouts Fall to Lowest Level in 2 Years

The volume of royalties paid to NFT creators for reselling their tokens has hit a two-year low, with close to 1,000 ETH (~$190,000) collected by April 2022.

According to Nansen data, at its peak, the royalties stood at around 27,000 ETH. Thus far, a total of around $75.7 million has been earned in one week alone.

Experts believe the decrease is likely due to plummeting prices of one of the most popular Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collections, as well as issues arising from the release of the non-fungible Azuki Elementals tokens.

Altogether, Yuga Labs has obtained $165.5 million from its royalties, Azuki has collected over $58.2 million from its zuki, Beanz, Elemental Beansa, and Elementals series, while RTFKT, the metaverse specialist, gathered more than $79.9 million.

Nansen believes that the royalty payments are an indicator of the financial sustainability of the creating companies, while OpenSea has claimed the majority of the number until mid-2023.
