In 2021, El Salvador passed a law permitting the use of Bitcoin as a form of payment within its borders. However, the country continues to have a very low rate of cryptocurrency adoption.

According to estimates from Ark Invest, Argentina is currently ahead of El Salvador in terms of the number of individuals holding the leading digital currency in Latin America.

A study by CoinGecko shows that only 2% of the Salvadoran population have become cryptocurrency investors in the past two years.

Triple-A data cited by CoinGecko reveals that there are approximately 109,175 BTC holders in the country, which accounts for less than 2% of the total population.

In terms of global rankings, El Salvador is ranked 55th in terms of Bitcoin adoption. Interestingly, even in countries where BTC investment is prohibited, the adoption rate is higher.
