Crypto political groups prepare for 2028 elections after Democrats win Congress
Crypto-backed political action committees are preparing for the 2028 US elections after Democrats secured control of both chambers of Congress in the midterms.
The result dealt the industry a major setback, including the defeat of Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, who had previously lost his seat after facing heavy crypto-funded opposition in 2024.
Crypto super PACs spent around $176 million across more than 100 races during the 2026 election cycle, including primary contests, according to Reuters. Fairshake and its affiliated groups accounted for $154.5 million across 89 races, compared with more than $130 million in total crypto industry spending during the 2024 elections.
The change in congressional control could bring closer scrutiny of the sector. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a prominent critic of the crypto industry, is expected to chair the Senate Banking Committee. Fairshake has more than $67 million remaining for the 2028 elections, with spokesperson Geoff Vetter saying the group would monitor how newly elected and current lawmakers approach the industry.
