US-based mining company Marathon Digital has recently announced it has inked a contract for the largest supply of ASIC miners Antminer S19 XP from the Chinese maker Bitmain.
The exact number of devices that Marathon has purchased from Bitmain has not been disclosed. However, the press release highlights that in terms of overall hashrate, this is the largest single order in Bitmain history.
Marathon has repeatedly entered this year into contracts for the supply of miners from Bitmain. The company has said it would have 133,000 devices under its control by mid-2022 with a total hash rate of 13.3 EH/s.
It is now reported that by early 2023 the company will have 199,000 ASIC miners generating a total hashrate of 23.3 EH/s. The company currently owns 31,000 miners that generate a hashrate of 3.2 EH/s.
Marathon CEO Fred Thiel said:
“Given our financial results and strategy in relation to assets, we can invest more in the procurement of miners, and not in infrastructure. We were able to place the largest single order for the Antminer S19 XP.”
